ROSE OF THE DAY – THE HAGUE

Todays images are of the Rose of the Day event taken on 08 July 2012.

The ‘Rose of the Day’ country fair at Westbroek Park Rose Garden is preceded in the horticultural calendar by the annual international rose competition (also at Westbroek Park). At the ‘Rose of the Day’ event all the winning roses with their gold, silver and bronze medals are on display and ready to be admired.

As has been the summer, the rain fell, causing most to rush for cover, except for the dedicated horticulturalists, who put up their umbrellas and continued to stroll between the flower beds and enjoy the roses.

Autumn Leaves, Japanese Garden – The Hague

Todays images are of the Japanese Garden at the Clingendael estate taken during the last weekend of the Autumn opening of the garden.

Having observed the Japanese garden during this years autumn opening, the seasonal change to the foliage, to the vibrant red and gold colours of autumn has been slow to develop for the gardens Japanese trees and shrubs, with most of colour metamorphosis occurring over last few days. This maybe more than due to the warmer than expected climate that we have been experiencing.

The Japanese Garden was created by the former owner of the Clingendael country estate Marguerite M. Baronesse van Brienen, also known as Lady Daisy at the start of the twentieth century.

Due to the fragile nature of The Japanese Garden it is open to the public only for a short period of time each year, six weeks in late spring and two weeks in the autumn.

This year 2011 the Japanese Garden was open:
Spring Opening: 30 april to 12 juni 2011, daily from 9.00 – 20.00
Autumn Opening: 15 to 30 oktober 2011, daily from 10.00 – 16.00
